Ekiti State Government is set to commence a free 3-Months intensive training programme for teachers in public Primary and Junior Secondary Schools in the State.
The Executive Chairman of the Ekiti State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB), Prof. Femi Akinwumi who made this known during an advocacy meeting with stakeholders in Ado Ekiti, said that the move was to improve work efficiency in the basic education sector.
Prof. Akinwumi stressed the importance of ICT to modern education, noting that it helps to facilitate teaching and learning processes as well as make them more effective.
According to him, ICT can impact students' learning when teachers are digitally literate and understand how to integrate it into the school's curriculum, adding that schools would also have the advantage of accessing diverse set of tools to communicate, create disseminate, store and manage information with ICT.
The SUBEB Chairman emphasized that ICT also promote the acquisition of the 21st century skills as well as enhances teachers' training and professional development.
He said that ICT helps teachers to identify creative children in their respective educational institutions, helps motivate students and growing interest in learning, helps provide personnel support including knowledge, attitude and skills for teachers as well as organisational preconditions of vision, policy and culture.
The SUBEB boss explained that the State Government was organizing the training programme in conjunction with a non-governmental organization, AZESSWORLD Technologies Ltd. to development of the basic education sector in recognition of the need to partner the private sector towards achieving rapid and sustainable development, adding that the Board would continue to partner interested competent organisations and donour agencies to achieve the desired goals.
Reiterating the commitment of the Biodun Oyebanji administration to improving the basic education sector and making it compete favourably across the globe, Akinwumi advised teachers in the State to take advantage of the opportunity provided by the State Government to improve themselves.
He stressed that managers of education in public Primary Schools in the State must embrace the modern trend in communication by acquainting themselves with the global best practices to remain relevant in a world that has now become a global village.
Professor Akinwumi also charged Education Secretaries in the State to mobilize public Primary School teachers for the training programme which he said would hold at designated centres in all the 16 Local Government Areas in the State.
In his remarks, the Permanent Secretary, SUBEB, Mr Adedayo Ajobiewe assured the organizers of maximum cooperation of all participants and also promising a conducive environment for the success of the program.
He however urged the Education Secretaries to galvanize their teachers to key-into the 3- month free computer training programme in order to make themselves more ICT compliant.
The program coordinator, AZESSWORLD Technologies Ltd., Engr Ubong Abasi said that the training was organized to boost the capacity of the Education Secretaries and public primary teachers on computer literacy.
He disclosed that participants who are successful at the end of the programme would be certificated by the Computer Professionals Registration Council of Nigeria (CPN)
Ubong assured the board that the programme which would be decentralized across the various local government areas for ease of access for all participants would not affect academic activities in schools
Responding on behalf of all Education Secretaries in the state, the Ado Local Government Education Secretary, Mr Toyin Omotoso assured the organizers of a hitch free training programme throughout the entire duration of the proposed training exercise.
