The Wife of the Ekiti State Governor, Dr Olayemi Oyebanji has appealed to parents to always train their children on proper moral conduct that would prevent them from being wayward and make them victims of sexual molestation.
The wife of the Governor stated this during a road walk in Ado Ekiti, as parts of activities marking the 16 Days Activism Against Gender Based Violence.
The awareness walk which started at the Fajuyi park area of the state capital, had in attendance the Deputy Governor, Chief Monisade Afuye, the Secretary to the State Government, Dr Abibat Adubiaro and women from across the 16 local governments and 19 local governments development areas who joined, Dr Oyebanji.
According to her, intimacy with children remained the best approach to knowing the secret affairs of younger ones, noting that, such would assist parents in proper upbringing of their wards.
Dr Olayemi who interacted with market women during the walk, said that sexual harassment against women, Rape, Child labour, forceful marriages among others were all forms of Gender Based Violence.
She explained that there were existing laws against such criminal practices, which she warned, would take its course anytime they were violated.
"We are sensitising the people against Gender Based Violence, it is one of the major programmes of the immediate past administration, we cannot say because that administration has ended and put a stop to the good initiative" Dr Olayemi said.
The first lady therefore advised youths to do away with alcoholism and drug addition capable of influencing them to perform such antisocial behavior, warning that the end result is jail term.
Those accompanied the Governor's wife during the sensitisation walk included, Non Governmental Organisation, National Association of Women Journalist, Corps Members among others.
