The three players that represented Ekiti State at the recently concluded SAPETRO National Junior Tennis Championships held at the Lagos Lawn Tennis Club returned victorious with three trophies.
The Coach of the athletes, Mr Wumi Ogunsakin who made this known via a report described the tournament as a platform for discovery and development of talents in the country.
The contingent won laurels in the girls 12& under and in the boys 14& under categories respectively.
Giving a breakdown of the players’ achievements at the event, Coach Ogunsakin said Gloria Samuel was victorious in the girls 12& under as she defeated her opponent to claim the top price while the final of the boys 14& under was a highly contested one between two Ekiti players, Oluwaseyi Ogunsakin and Israel Adeusi.
The match was won by Oluwaseyi Ogunsaskin who was a newly promoted player from the 12& under category to the 14& under category while Israel Adeusi got the second price.
Mr Ogunsakin revealed that Oluwaseyi who defeated older players on his way to securing the title was received the award fro the Most Outstanding Player of the tournament.
The Coach appreciated the Fayemi led administration for the efforts in developing sports in the State and also the leadership of the State Sports Council, the duo of Chairman, Mrs Olusola Osetoba and the General Manager, Mr Kunle Adeyemi for their continued support and backing in moving the sport of Tennis to greater heights.
He appealed to all well-to-do individuals and corporate organizations to support efforts of government at developing sports in the State.
