Ekiti State has won a Gold medal at the just concluded SNEPCO National Junior Tennis Masters Championship held in Lagos State.

This was made known by the General Manager, Ekiti State Sports Council, Mr Kunle Adeyemi in Ado Ekiti who stated that two players represented the State at the tournament in the Male and Female categories.

In a tournament which was for the best 4 players in the country in the boy’s and girl’s 12 & under and 16 & under categories, the GM spoke quite highly of the players and their performance.

Mr Adeyemi said that the representative in the male event, Oluwaseun Ogunsakin won the only medal for the State while the female player, Gloria Samuel lost in the round robin to a superior opponent on the day.

The GM revealed that Oluwaseun had earlier lost one of his group games in the round robin to his Oyo State counterpart but he showed grit to defeat the same opponent in the final after they had both qualified from the group stage.

The two players tutored by Coach Wumi Ogunsakin gave good accounts of themselves and they were admonished by the General Manager to re-strategize and prepare for the next tournament.

“Oluwaseun Ogunsakin has dominated for a while now and I don’t want him to relent because we all want him to continue to succeed.

Gloria has been performing well and winning medals too, this loss should not define her but should be seen as a challenge for her to get stronger as a player and a person. She should keep looking forward and medals will surely return”, he said.
