Ekiti Declares Friday Work-Free Ahead of Governorship Election

The Ekiti State Government has declared Friday, June 19, 2026, as a work-free day for all public servants across the state to enable them travel to their respective voting centres ahead of the governorship election scheduled for Saturday, June 20, 2026.

The declaration, which was contained in a circular issued by the Office of Establishments and Service Matters and signed by the Permanent Secretary, Mrs. Janet Funke,  stated that Governor Biodun Abayomi Oyebanji approved the work-free day to facilitate workers' participation in the electoral process.

According to the circular, the gesture is aimed at giving public servants adequate time to travel and make necessary preparations for the governorship poll, thereby promoting wider voter participation across the state.

The government, however, exempted hospitals and health centres, fire service departments, and other essential service providers from the directive, noting that they are expected to continue providing critical services in the interest of public safety and uninterrupted service delivery.

The circular further directed heads of the exempted institutions to make appropriate duty arrangements to ensure seamless operations during the period as well as urged urged Chief Executive Officers and Accounting Officers to ensure strict compliance with the directive and give it the widest publicity within their respective organisations.
