Ekiti Govt Hands Over Broiler Processing Plant, Cattle Market Project Sites to Contractors Broiler processing facility to incorporate bio-gas technology

The Ekiti State Government, through the Livestock Productivity and Resilience Support (L-PRES) Project, has handed over sites for the construction of a broiler processing plant and modern cattle markets to contractors handling the projects.

The broiler processing plant and one of the ultra-modern cattle markets are located along the EKSU/Iworoko Road in Ado-Ekiti, while the second cattle market is situated in Omuo-Ekiti, headquarters of Ekiti East Local Government Area.

Speaking during the handover ceremony, the Commissioner for Agriculture and Food Security, Mr. Ebenezer Boluwade, described the projects as strategic investments aimed at strengthening livestock value chains, creating jobs and stimulating economic growth in the state.

Mr. Boluwade said the proposed broiler processing plant would have the capacity to process about 150,000 birds monthly, thereby reducing post-harvest losses and improving hygienic meat processing standards.

According to him, the facility will also incorporate bio-gas technology under a waste-to-wealth initiative designed to promote environmental sustainability and attract private sector investment.

He noted that the projects align with the state government’s agenda of modernising livestock infrastructure and promoting commercial agriculture.

Also speaking, the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security, Mr. Babatope Ojo, said the projects would boost internally generated revenue and support sustainable economic development in the state.

Earlier, the State Project Coordinator of L-PRES, Mr. Olayinka Adedipe, said the broiler processing plant would be equipped with modern facilities, including cold-room blast systems, storage facilities and semi-automated slaughtering lines.

Mr. Adedipe said the infrastructure would ensure compliance with global food safety and hygiene standards.

He reiterated the commitment of L-PRES to deploying climate-smart and commercially viable livestock infrastructure to improve productivity, resilience and food security.

The coordinator added that the modern cattle markets would provide hygienic and structured environments for livestock trading and meat processing in line with global best practices.

In a goodwill message, the Olomuo of Omuo-Ekiti, Oba Noah Omonigbehin, represented by High Chief Dayo Olatunbosun, commended the state government for its efforts to transform the livestock sector.

He assured the government of the community’s support and commitment to the sustainability of the projects.

In their separate remarks, representatives of the contracting firms — Thomas Chase Nigeria Ltd, Jadfem Nigeria Ltd and Hyses Nex Nigeria Ltd — pledged to deliver the projects within the stipulated timelines and in line with approved quality standards.

The representatives included Mr. Yomi Omiyale, Mr. Femi Osobu and Engr. Kunle Otun.
