The Information Chapel of the Ekiti State Council of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) has procured information and communication technology equipment to enhance members’ proficiency in ICT and strengthen the chapel’s financial capacity.
The Chapel Chairman, Mr Wale Obelewaji, made this known while unveiling the equipment for official and commercial use on Wednesday in Ado-Ekiti.
Obelewaji described the initiative as a strategic move to diversify income sources and ensure financial sustainability.
He said the acquisition was designed to streamline operations, improve efficiency and create additional revenue channels for the chapel.
Obelewaji noted that in an era of dwindling resources for media organisations, innovation and adaptation were critical for survival.
“The unveiling of this equipment is a proactive step towards repositioning our chapel for greater productivity and financial independence.
“It will not only enhance our internal processes but also open up new opportunities for income generation,” he said.
The Chapel Chairman added that leveraging technology was essential for media practitioners to remain relevant in a rapidly evolving digital landscape.
Also speaking, the Director of Information Services, Ekiti State Ministry of Information, Mr Tope Babalola, commended the union for the initiative, describing it as a step in the right direction to boost its revenue base.
Babalola urged the leadership to ensure optimal use of the equipment for enhanced productivity.
He also encouraged members to embrace innovation and maximise the tools, stressing that success would depend on collective responsibility and patronage.
Some members who witnessed the unveiling expressed optimism, describing the initiative as timely and forward-looking.
The event featured a demonstration of the gadget, with members taken through its functionalities and potential applications.
