The Ekiti State Livestock Productivity and Resilience Support (L-PRES) Project has renovated the Veterinary Hospital in Ijero-Ekiti and established a Goat Multiplication Ranch at Erifun, in Ado-Ekiti.
The State Commissioner for Agriculture and Food Security, Ebenezer Boluwade, announced this at a forum in Ado-Ekiti, saying the projects align with the state government’s efforts to strengthen livestock infrastructure, improve animal health services and boost food security.
Mr Boluwade said the renovated veterinary hospital would improve access to quality animal healthcare, reduce the incidence of livestock diseases and support farmers through the adoption of modern veterinary practices.
The Permanent Secretary in the ministry, Babatope Ojo, described the projects as strategic investments aimed at repositioning the livestock sub-sector for sustainable productivity and resilience.
He said functional veterinary infrastructure and organised livestock production systems were essential for long-term transformation of the sector.
Earlier, the State Project Coordinator of L-PRES, Olayinka Adedipe, said the renovation of the Ijero Veterinary Hospital included upgrades to treatment rooms and other key facilities to enhance service delivery.
He added that the Goat Multiplication Ranch at Erifun was designed as a breeding and capacity-building centre to increase goat population, improve genetic quality and serve as a training hub for livestock farmers across the state.
The Director of Veterinary Services in the ministry, Dr Adedamola Fasoranti praised the state government for prioritising animal health.
He said the projects would strengthen disease surveillance, promote animal welfare and contribute to higher meat production and improved incomes for farmers.
