The Commissioner for Environment and Natural Resources, Mrs Tosin Aluko-Ajisafe, disclosed this in a statement made available to newsmen on Thursday in Ado-Ekiti.
She said the theme for the month’s exercise is “Clean Your Environment and Be Safe from Epidemic,” noting that environmental cleanliness is key to preventing disease outbreaks and protecting public health.
According to the commissioner, there will be restriction of movement during the three-hour sanitation period, except for persons on essential duties.
Aluko-Ajisafe urged residents to actively participate in the exercise, adding that market women are expected to clean their shops on Thursday, while government workers are to clean their offices on Friday, ahead of the main exercise.
She said Environmental Health Officers from the Ministry of Environment, LGAs, LCDAs, Non-Governmental Organisations and security agencies would be on ground to monitor compliance and enforce sanitation regulations.
The commissioner reaffirmed the state government’s commitment to environmental health and stressed that sustainable sanitation is a collective responsibility of both the government and the people.
She called on residents to comply with the sanitation schedule as part of their civic responsibility.
“Environmental cleanliness is not negotiable. A clean environment means a healthier population,” she said.
