Ekiti State Commissioner for Information, Rt. Hon. Taiwo Olatunbosun, has reiterated the commitment of the Governor Biodun Oyebanji administration to sustaining a mutual, transparent, and participatory relationship with all stakeholders in the State, anchored on trust and strengthened through effective communication.
Speaking while addressing State Information Officers during their weekly editorial meeting in Ado-Ekiti, Rt. Hon. Olatunbosun urged them to embrace unity, professionalism, and collective responsibility in advancing the communication objectives of the State Government in the New Year.
The Commissioner, who received briefings on current developments across Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs), as well as reports from Information Officers deployed to the MDAs, commended the officers for their diligence in tracking and reporting government activities across various sectors,describing their efforts as critical to effective governance and public enlightenment.
He stressed the need for Information Officers to be proactive in identifying information gaps and guiding the public appropriately where necessary, emphasizing that officers must continue to contribute professionally to efforts aimed at communicating government policies, programmes, and activities clearly, accurately, and responsibly.
“Government Information Officers must serve as the bridge between government and the public by informing, educating, listening, and fostering trust through responsible communication. This duty is not a matter of personal choice, but a responsibility and moral obligation. We must therefore rise to the task in order to achieve the desired goals,” Olatunbosun stated.
While reaffirming the Oyebanji administration’s zero tolerance for crass propaganda, the Commissioner stressed the government’s resolve to ensure that citizens are timely and accurately informed about its decisions, policies, programmes, projects, and activities, as well as their implications.
According to him, the primary responsibility of Information Officers is to promote peace, unity, development, and sustainable growth in the State, adding that they must therefore remain focused on helping the government build public trust and credibility through transparent communication that clarifies intentions, corrects misinformation, and demonstrates accountability.
Assuring the officers of the State Government’s commitment to their welfare, Olatunbosun encouraged them to remain assured of their well-being and to stay committed to delivering efficient and effective services.
In his response, the Director of Information Services and Media Relations, Mr. Tope Babalola, pledged, on behalf of the State Information Officers, to intensify efforts towards effective publicity and accurate communication of government policies and programmes.
Mr. Babalola also assured the Commissioner of the continued support, loyalty, and cooperation of Information Officers in advancing the communication goals of the Ekiti State Government.
