The Ekiti State Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Development, Mrs Olapeju Babafemi, has commended the Nigeria Association of Women Journalists (NAWOJ), Ekiti State Chapter, for collaborating with colleagues within and outside the country to promote professionalism and capacity building.
Babafemi gave the commendation on Tuesday in Ado-Ekiti while declaring open a three-day workshop organised for NAWOJ members.
The workshop, themed “Gender Equity and Safety,” was designed to strengthen journalists’ skills in gender-sensitive reporting.
The Commissioner urged participants to take full advantage of the training to enhance their professional performance and contribute more effectively to promoting gender equity in the media.
She noted that continuous capacity building remained critical to improving journalistic standards and ensuring responsible reporting.
The workshop, supported by the Norwegian Union of Journalists, attracted participants from public and private media organisations across the state.
Participants are expected to be exposed to topics including combating sexual harassment in the workplace, challenges in gender reporting, journalists’ rights and gender safety.
Also present at the event were a representative of the Norwegian Union of Journalists, Ms Veronica Ogbole; a former NAWOJ President, Mrs Hadiza Omowole; and the Vice President of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Zone B, Mrs Ronke Samo.
