OYEBANJI’S LABOUR RELATIONS UNPRECEDENTED, SAYS EKITI NLC…as Congress holds New Year prayer

The Ekiti State Council of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) has hailed the State Governor, Gov. Biodun Abayomi Oyebanji for the unprecedented labour-friendly disposition which has transformed the State’s Public Service in the last two years.

Speaking at the new year prayer organized by the Congress, the Chairman, Comrade Kolapo Olatunde said Gov. Oyebanji’s approval of virtually all requests presented to him by labour without threats of industrial actions or coercion was a departure from the norm.

The Labour leader disclosed that at the twilight of the negotiations for the payment of the new minimum wage, there were insinuations from some quarters that labour had sold out until the table for the wage was released and Ekiti state template was adjudged one of the best.

Olatunde said the labour centre under his watch has consistently been representing workers interests excellently as this has resulted in the defrayment of all salary arrears, implementation of outstanding promotions and the gradual defrayment of gratuity among others.

Good to note that the minimum wage document was signed by His Excellency without  hesitation. He said all the affiliates should be carried along.

Governor Oyebanji has cleared all the salary arrears, implementing the financial benefits of the previous promotions ditto that of 2022 and 2023 promotions”, he said.

Like Oliver Twist, the labour leader would further appreciate the continuous payment of leave bonus.

Speaking on subvented institutions, the labour leader encouraged all to key into implementation of the new minimum wage  as NLC may not be able to guarantee industrial peace in a case of non implementation.

In his remarks, the Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Labour matters, Hon. Kayode Fatomiluyi commended the labour leaders for representing Ekiti workers well.
Com. Fatomiluyi said the implementation of the new minimum wage further demonstrated   Governor Oyebanji’s compassion and commitment to the welfare of workers and added that the governor is not unaware of the remaining agitations among workers.

He urged workers to reciprocate the government’s good gesture by making their impacts felt in discharging their duties.

At the event, prayers were offered to God for the peace and progress of Nigeria, particularly Ekiti State and workers in general.
