The candidate of the All
Progressives Congress (APC) for the Ekiti House of Assembly election in Ado constituency
1, Hon. Ayodeji Adegbite has commissioned an Information and Communication
Technology (ICT) centre at AUD Comprehensive High School, Ado Ekiti.
The project is the third ICT
centre built by the Assembly hopeful in the last two years.
Speaking in Ado Ekiti at the
handing over ceremony, Adegbite said the new centre is part of his plans “to
ensure that students in Ekiti State become ICT-compliant”; adding that he is driven
by the passion to ensure that young people become more informed and more useful
for themselves.
The APC candidate who noted that the
gesture is in line with the knowledge economy agenda of the state government
stated that ICT would equip the youth with the skills to translate what is
being taught to realities, thereby enabling them to contribute to the economic
development of the State.
While disclosing that he had
provided one year internet subscription for the centre, Adegbite said this
would grant the students access to digital information for problem-solving as
well as the enhancement of research skills.
“The immediate past
administration of Dr Kayode Fayemi envisioned and birthed the Knowledge Economy
in Ekiti State. One of the critical components of the Knowledge Economy is ICT.
The state government’s decision to drive the State’s economy with ICT is borne
out of the fact that ICT equips our youth with the skills to translate what is
being taught to realities.”

“There is no gainsay that this project we are commissioning today will grant our children effective access to digital information for problem-solving as well as the enhancement of research skills. It is our hope that in the near future, this opportunity will birth new Steve Job, Bill Gates and Elon Musk who have opened people’s eyes to the gains of using technology in solving human problems”, he said.
He solicited the support of
people of Ado constituency 1 for him to emerge as winner in Saturday’s
election; pledging that he would provide “good representation at the Assembly”
if elected.
Adegbite in his speech acknowledged
the support he received from his partner, Patent Pathways, in executing the
project; adding that he would use his connection to bring development through public-private
partnership if elected.
In his remarks, the Principal of
the school, Mr Oluyede thanked Adegbite and his partner for donating the
project.
The principal said teaching and
learning of Computer Studies and other ICT related subjects have been carried
out for years relying on teachers personal laptops and textbooks alone;
stressing that “with the availability of these ICT equipment, teaching and
learning process would be made very easy and effective for teachers and
students offering Computer Studies”.
Oluyede who spoke on the importance
of ICT said ICT continues to invade and transform many aspect of lives “to the
extent that we now live in an environment dominated by technology”.
The event was attended by dignitaries including the Secretary to the State Government, Dr Habibat Adubiaro, the chairman League of Imam and Alfa Southwest Nigeria, Edo and Delta, Sheikh Dr Jamiu Kewulere Bello, Chief Imam Ansar-U-Deen Sheikh Abdullahi Abdulmutolib, Ado Ekiti Local Government Chairman Hon Bosun Osaloni and Ado central LCDA chairman Hon Toyin Ojo, among others.
