The Commissioner for Health and Human Services, Dr Oyebanji Filani has assured Ekiti citizens that the administration of Governor Biodun Oyebanji will stop at nothing to enhancing the health and well-being of Ekiti people.
The Commissioner made this known during the flag off ceremony of the Outbreak Response OBR programme organised by Ekiti State Primary Health Care Development Agency in conjunction with other health partners.
Dr Filani who was represented by the Permanent Secretary in the ministry, Pharmacist Bisi Arogundade said a total of 544,041 children between 0-59 months are expected to be vaccinated during the exercise.
He stated that the 4 day campaign will hold between Saturday 21st and Tuesday 24th January 2023, promising that 1,360 teams of trained personnel will be engaged during the exercise.
In his opening remarks,the Executive Secretary of the Agency, Dr Ayodele Seluwa encouraged the parents to avail their children and wards the opportunity of the Immunization exercise by giving the health workers opportunity to have access to their children as they'll be visiting homes,schools, religious organisations and designated places in all communities across the 16LGAs of the state.
The Unicef consultant in Ekiti state, Mr Chioma Obi, who spoke on behalf of other health development partners said, though Nigeria has been certified polio free forever, it is pertinent that Ekiti State maintains the status as new variants are being discovered in neighboring states.
He stressed that the exercise became important to ensure quality health care service for children between the ages of 0 to 59 months due to their vulnerability to the menace caused by the deadly polio virus, assuring that the vaccines are free, safe and effective.
