The wife of Ekiti State Governor, Dr Olayemi Oyebanj has announced that anyone caught engaging in Gender Based Violence in Ekiti State will not be spared irrespective of their status and whatever circumstances.
The wife of of the Governor made this known in Ado Ekiti while receiving members of the State Sexual Assault Referral Centers in her office.
According to Dr Olayemi, there is tendencies for people to engage in rape and assault owing to the mentality that the immediate past Ekiti governor's wife who is a gender advocate has left the office with the laws.
She however emphasized that the laws were still in force and operational saying that the present administration will not support the scourge of rape to be on the increase.
Earlier, the coordinator, Ekiti State Sexual Assault Referral Center, Barrister Rita Ilevbare sought Government support on aggressive sensitization of law enforcement agencies on their activities to the referral centers.
Barrister Ilevbare appealed for operational vehicles and other logistics that could make the referral centers functional.
In a similar development, Dr Oyebanji has promised to synergize efforts with the Medical Women Association of Nigeria (MWAN), in achieving desired goals in the area of care giving and involvement in government activities most especially in the area of Female Genital Mutilation (FGM), Gender Based Violence and other issues that are inimical to the future of girl child as well as women development.
The president of the Association in Ekiti State, Doctor Esther Akinsooto during a visit of its members to the Governor's wife stated that the association had been proactive in giving needed support to members of the public who were in need of medical assistance and school girls who could drop out of schools.
Doctor Akinsooto emphasized the need for the present administration to carry the association along in the scheme of its activities so that Government goals on health could be achieved.
