The Adolescent Girls Initiative for Learning and Empowerment (AGILE)in Ekiti State has called for maximum support of traditional rulers in the state to ensure successful completion of ongoing AGILE projects in the state.
The Project Coordinator of AGILE in Ekiti State, Mrs Oluwayemisi Alokan while addressing the Monarchs at the AGILE Engagement with Ekiti Traditional Rulers in Ado-Ekiti on Tuesday solicited the cooperation of the traditional rulers to achieve the set goals of the projects.
While delivering a presentation on AGILE projects, Mrs Alokan enumerated some major achievements of AGILE which includes renovations of dilapidated buildings in 202 Public Secondary Schools in Ekiti State,Sensitization meetings on AGILE with relevant stakeholders.
"We also have interface meeting with State GBV Management Committee members for support of service delivery, we celebrated 2022 International Girl Child Day, and as well Flag-off of Small school improvement Grants among others". She said.
In her remark, Wife of the Governor of Ekiti State, Dr. Mrs Olayemi Oyebanji appreciated all Royal Fathers that attended the program and solicited their continuous support and counsel in ensuring proper education of girl child in their communities.
The First Lady who frown at some traditional practices and belief responsible for keeping girls out of school, called on the monarchs to use their good position as custodian of culture to check mate and stop such practices and return girls of school age back to school.
The Chairman Council of Obas in Ekiti State, Oba Gabriel Adejuwon,The Onisan of Isan Ekiti in his response, appreciated the AGILE Team for their impacts in all Public Secondary schools in the State.
He assured that the monarchs would try their best to put an end to sexual harassment and other vices responsible for keeping girls out of school in various communities across the state.
The Owatapa of Itapa Ekiti,His Royal Majesty Oba David Ajaja (PhD)in his remarks make a clarion call to the Ekiti State Government,to ensure that all Rapist should be castrated. According to him castration will serve as a deterrent to erring offenders.
The Olojudo of Ido Ekiti, HRM Oba Ilori Faboro in his remarks said the Queens and the Market Women should be adequately sensitized to curb the Female Genital Mutilation syndrome rampant in the society.
The Alawe of Ilawe Ekiti, Oba Adebanji Ajibade Alabi 1 in his remarks condemned the act of Female Genital Mutilation and some other harmful practices against the girl child.
