Ekiti Commissions Motorised Boreholes in Six Councils …as Governor's representative, SDGs DG urge communities to protect facilities

The Ekiti State Government has commissioned newly constructed motorised boreholes in several communities across the state, as part of efforts to improve access to potable water at the grassroots.

The Commissioner for Local Government Affairs, Mr Folorunso Olabode, who represented Gov. Biodun Oyebanji, commissioned projects in Ilado community quarters and Ilado community, Otunja Ekiti, in Ikole West LCDA; Okeliju Quarters, Itapa Ekiti, in Ifeloju LCDA; and Iloro-Ekiti in Irewolede LCDA. He said the projects underscored the administration's commitment to people-oriented infrastructure.

Olabode said access to clean and safe water was essential to the health and socio-economic well-being of residents, particularly those in rural communities.

He urged beneficiary communities to take ownership of the facilities by maintaining them properly and protecting them from vandalism.

"Members of the benefiting communities have a responsibility to ensure that the installations remain functional at all times," he said.

Also speaking, the Special Adviser/Director-General, Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and Independent Project Monitoring Office, Dr Adewole Ajakaiye, said the Oyebanji administration remained committed to translating the United Nations' 17 SDGs into tangible interventions that improve residents' lives.

Ajakaiye, who commissioned boreholes in Iluomoba and Ijan-Ekiti in Gbonyin LCDA; Tungba community, Iyin-Ekiti, in Araromi LCDA; and Iro-Ekiti in Moba Local Government Area, said the projects would ease residents' difficulties in accessing potable water while contributing to improved sanitation, public health and community development.

He commended the governor for approving the projects and praised the beneficiary communities for their cooperation during implementation.

Traditional rulers, chiefs and community representatives who spoke at the events thanked the state government and the SDGs Office for the intervention, describing it as a significant relief to residents.

They pledged to protect, maintain and sustain the facilities for present and future generations.

The projects, executed by the State SDGs Office with the governor's approval, are located in Ilado community quarters and Ilado community, Otunja Ekiti, in Ikole West LCDA; Okeliju Quarters, Itapa Ekiti, in Ifeloju LCDA; Iloro-Ekiti in Irewolede LCDA; Iluomoba and Ijan-Ekiti in Gbonyin LCDA; Tungba community, Iyin-Ekiti, in Araromi LCDA; and Iro-Ekiti in Moba Local Government Area.
