Ekiti NUJ Congratulates Retired Information Directors, Hails Contributions to Journalism

 

The Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Ekiti State Council, has congratulated two retired Directors of the Ekiti State Ministry of Information, Mr. David Olajide and Mr. Sunday Agunbiade, describing their years of service as meritorious and their contributions to the development of the Ministry and journalism profession as invaluable.

The Union, in a communiqué issued at the end of its August Congress held at the Tai Oguntayo Hall, NUJ Press Centre, Ado-Ekiti, acknowledged the contributions of the two retired information officers to the State and the journalism profession, while wishing them fulfilling and rewarding years in retirement.

The Congress, presided over by the State Chairman, Comrade Kayode Babatuyi, noted that Olajide and Agunbiade had contributed significantly to the growth of the information sector in the State, particularly through their professional service and commitment to effective information dissemination.

While congratulating the retired Directors, the NUJ urged them to see their retirement as the beginning of another phase of life, expressing confidence that their wealth of experience and professional accomplishments would continue to inspire younger information officers and practitioners in the State.

The Congress also commended the reconciliatory initiatives of the Governor of Ekiti State, Mr. Biodun Oyebanji, towards other contestants in the June 2026 governorship election, describing the development as a demonstration of unity of purpose and prioritisation of the overall interest and development of the State above partisan considerations.

It urged political leaders and stakeholders to sustain the spirit of reconciliation, cooperation and inclusiveness, while also commending President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for approving the reconstruction of some federal roads across Ekiti State. 

The Union, however, called for an acceleration of work on the projects to reduce the hardship being experienced by commuters and residents.

The Congress further called on the Federal and State Governments to urgently equip government-owned media houses with modern and state-of-the-art equipment to enable journalists and media professionals operate effectively in line with contemporary technological standards. 

The Congress also commended the leadership of the NUJ President, Alhaji Yahaya Alhassan, describing his administration as purposeful and result-oriented and reaffirming its support for his efforts to reposition the Union.
