Ekiti Directors, Deputy Directors Urged to Strengthen Policy, Institutional Continuity

 

The Ekiti State Commissioner for Capacity Development and Training, Prof. Patrick Tedela, has described directors and deputy directors in the state public service as policy advisers and custodians of government records whose decisions could determine the success or failure of government initiatives.

Tedela stated this on Wednesday in Ado-Ekiti at the opening of a two-day training programme organised for selected substantive directors and deputy directors in the Ekiti State Public Service.

The commissioner said the participants occupied strategic positions in the public service and were responsible for transferring institutional knowledge and preserving accumulated experience whenever senior officers retired.

He urged them to take the training seriously and apply the knowledge acquired to improve their performance, leadership capacity and overall service delivery.

Also speaking, the State Head of Service and one of the resource persons at the programme, Dr Folakemi Olomojobi, urged the participants to identify their talents and improve their interpersonal relationships with colleagues and subordinates.

Olomojobi advised them to embrace inclusive administration, encourage succession planning and establish effective mentorship systems to ensure continuity and sustainability in the public service.

Earlier, the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Capacity Development and Training, Mr Bamidele Arowosola, said the training was designed to enhance the knowledge and capacity of the participants for effective discharge of their responsibilities.

Arowosola commended the Biodun Oyebanji-led administration for its commitment to capacity development and prioritisation of continuous training and professional development of public servants in the state.

The Permanent Secretary, Ekiti State Civil Service Commission, Mrs Bukola Ogunlade, also charged the participants to improve their competence, particularly in grooming and developing their subordinates.

Ogunlade said smart leadership involved setting SMART goals aligned with the mandates of the participants' respective Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs).

In a goodwill message, the Permanent Secretary, Office of Establishment and Service Matters, Mrs Janet Ajibola, said the training would improve the competence of the participants, strengthen institutional capacity and enhance the quality of public service delivery in the state.

The participants commended the state government and the Ministry of Capacity Development and Training for organising the programme and pledged to apply the knowledge acquired to improve the discharge of their official responsibilities.
