The Ekiti State Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Development, Mrs Olapeju Babafemi, has urged members of the Society of Women Accountants of Nigeria (SWAN) to deliberately mentor girls and young women aspiring to build careers in the accounting profession.
Babafemi made the call while delivering a goodwill message at the investiture ceremony and inauguration of the 2026–2028 executive members of the SWAN Ado-Ekiti Chapter.
She charged members of the association to complement their professional excellence by investing in the next generation of female accountants through structured mentorship, career guidance and outreach programmes.
The commissioner specifically encouraged SWAN to organise mentorship programmes for female accounting students in tertiary institutions and secondary schools, noting that exposing young girls to accomplished women in the profession would inspire confidence, nurture talent and strengthen the future of the accounting profession.
Babafemi also underscored the critical role of women in promoting integrity, trust and ethical standards in the accounting profession.
She commended members of the Ekiti State chapter for their contributions to public sector administration and private sector accounting.
The commissioner reaffirmed the commitment of the Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Development to supporting women-focused professional associations in line with the Human Capital Development pillar of the Biodun Oyebanji administration.
The ceremony, organised by SWAN in collaboration with the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria (ICAN), was held at the AB Hotel and Event Centre, Ado-Ekiti.
The event featured the investiture of Mrs Monisola Kolade, FCA, as Chairperson of the SWAN Ado-Ekiti Chapter for the 2026–2028 tenure, and the inauguration of the newly elected executive members.
Speaking at the event, the National Chairperson of SWAN, Mrs Blessing Ngozi Osakwe-Ogo, described the Ekiti State chapter as one of the association's most vibrant and active chapters.
She urged members to remain committed to the association's vision of mentoring and nurturing aspiring female accountants.
Also speaking, the Accountant-General of Ekiti State and Life Patron of the SWAN Ado-Ekiti Chapter, Mrs Titilayo Olariike Olayinka, reaffirmed her commitment to supporting the association in achieving its objectives.
The event also featured an investiture lecture titled "The Excellent Woman," delivered by Dr (Mrs) A.R. Ayeni-Agbaje, who emphasised the importance of character, excellence and mentorship in both professional and personal development.
In her valedictory address, the immediate past Chairperson of the SWAN Ado-Ekiti Chapter, Dr (Mrs) Elizabeth Alade, FCA, thanked God for a successful tenure and said her administration was committed to raising the profile of SWAN members in the state.
She described the successful leadership transition as another milestone for the association and appreciated members of her executive for their diligence, honesty, resilience and selfless service.
Alade urged the new executive, led by Mrs Monisola Kolade, to consolidate on the foundation of excellence laid by the outgoing administration.
In her acceptance speech, Kolade pledged that the new executive would build on the achievements of its predecessors.
She announced plans to establish a SWAN Ado-Ekiti Mentorship Register to connect chartered female accountants with students, and to monitor ICAN examination enrolment and internship opportunities aimed at strengthening the professional development pipeline for aspiring female accountants.
