The Ekiti State Government has reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening fiscal discipline, promoting transparency and enhancing internally generated revenue (IGR) across the state's local government councils to improve governance and grassroots service delivery.
The Commissioner for Local Government Affairs, Folorunso Olabode, stated this at the closing ceremony of a three-day capacity-building workshop for local government chairmen, House leaders and senior career officers held at Lady Jibowu Hall, Ado-Ekiti.
Represented by the Permanent Secretary in the ministry, Babatunde Olaoye, the commissioner said the workshop was designed to equip participants with practical knowledge and strategies for efficient and accountable local government administration.
According to him, the training featured 10 technical sessions covering key areas such as enhancing internally generated revenue for sustainable governance, strengthening internal audit and control mechanisms, effective asset management for accountability and improved service delivery, as well as other critical aspects of local government administration.
Olabode said the participants engaged in productive discussions, exchanged valuable experiences and explored practical strategies for building financially stronger, more transparent and citizen-focused local government councils.
He urged the participants to uphold fiscal discipline and due process in public administration, strengthen internal control systems, expand their revenue base through lawful and innovative initiatives, and remain accountable to the people they serve.
The commissioner also charged the officials to translate the knowledge and skills acquired during the workshop into concrete actions, assuring them of the state government's continued support for initiatives that strengthen institutional capacity, improve governance and promote sustainable grassroots development.
Earlier, the Chairman of the Communiqué Drafting Committee and Chairman of Igbara-Odo/Ogotun Local Council Development Area (LCDA), Mrs Bukola Olowolaju, said participants adopted 12 resolutions aimed at strengthening institutional capacity, improving operational efficiency and boosting internally generated revenue across the local government system in the state.
She said the resolutions include upholding ethical conduct, integrity and zero tolerance for corruption in fiscal and administrative processes, promoting prudent management of public funds, strengthening accountability and improving service delivery to enhance public confidence in local government administration.
No fewer than 300 participants received certificates of participation at the end of the workshop.
