The Ekiti State Government has reaffirmed its commitment to continuous capacity development for public officers as part of efforts to strengthen accountability, transparency and efficiency in governance.
The Commissioner for Capacity Development and Training, Prof. Patrick Tedela, made this known on Tuesday while declaring open a two-day training workshop for State and Local Government Audit Officers in Ado-Ekiti.
Tedela said the Biodun Abayomi Oyebanji administration would continue to prioritise the training and retraining of public servants, describing human capital development as a critical pillar of the government's drive to build a productive, professional and responsive public service.
He said the workshop was designed to deepen participants' knowledge, enhance their technical skills and improve their professional competence for greater efficiency in the discharge of their duties.
According to him, continuous learning remains indispensable to effective service delivery and good governance in the public sector.
The commissioner commended Gov. Biodun Oyebanji for approving the programme, describing the gesture as another demonstration of the administration's resolve to invest in the capacity of the workforce and institutionalise global best practices in the state's public service.
Also speaking, the Head of Service, Dr Folakemi Olomojobi, urged participants to maximise the opportunity provided by the workshop by improving their professional competence, communication skills and ethical standards.
She described auditing as a noble profession with the critical responsibility of promoting accountability and prudent management of public resources.
Earlier, the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Capacity Development and Training, Mr Bamidele Arowosola, described the workshop as timely and strategic, saying it would enhance job performance, improve service delivery and strengthen financial management across Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs).
In separate goodwill messages, the representative of the State Auditor-General, Mr Ifelola Oluwatayo; the Local Government Auditor-General, Dr Iyadunni Oke; the Secretary, State Audit Service Commission, Mrs Oluwatoyin Emmanuel; and the Executive Secretary, State Central Audit Bureau, Mrs Bilikis Sanni, said the training would equip audit officers with the requisite knowledge to effectively monitor government finances, strengthen internal control systems and safeguard public resources in line with extant financial regulations.
One of the resource persons and Chairman of the Ekiti State Internal Revenue Service (EKIRS), Mr Olaniran Olatona, expressed optimism that the knowledge acquired during the workshop would translate into improved financial operations, stronger internal control mechanisms and greater accountability in public sector financial management.
Some participants, including Mrs Bosede Odelola and Mr Adeokin Oluwaseyi, described the programme as impactful, enlightening and timely, and commended the state government for providing another platform to enhance their professional capacity.
The workshop, with the theme, "Public Sector Auditing and Internal Control Mechanism: Enhancing Accountability and Integrity in Public Sector Financial Operations," brought together audit officers from the state and local government services to strengthen their competencies in public financial management and reinforce accountability in government operations.
