Ekiti LPRES Sensitises Farmers on Sustainable Management of Livestock Infrastructure

The Ekiti State Livestock Productivity and Resilience Support (LPRES) Project has intensified efforts to strengthen the sustainability framework for livestock infrastructure across beneficiary communities in the state.

The initiative formed the focus of stakeholder engagements held during the sensitisation of cluster livestock farmers benefiting from the ongoing construction of pig slaughter slabs in Ikere-Ekiti and Ago Aduloju, Ado-Ekiti.

Speaking during the engagement in Ado-Ekiti, the State Project Coordinator, Mr Olayinka Adedipe, stressed the importance of beneficiary ownership as a critical factor for the long-term sustainability of the infrastructure.

Adedipe urged cluster farmers to institutionalise accountability frameworks to ensure proper utilisation, regular maintenance and collective oversight of the facilities.

He described the slaughter slabs as strategic interventions aimed at improving hygiene standards, strengthening meat processing systems and promoting safer livestock handling practices across the state.

According to him, the long-term value of such capital investments could be undermined without active community participation and a strong maintenance culture.

“The LPRES Project is deliberately promoting a community-centred model that places responsibility on beneficiaries to safeguard, optimise and sustain project assets for lasting impact,” he said.

He also called on the farmers to adopt proactive maintenance mechanisms and effective governance structures capable of preventing misuse, operational inefficiencies and infrastructure deterioration.

Responding on behalf of the beneficiary clusters, Messrs Adeleye Olufemi and Daramola Benjamin expressed appreciation to the Ekiti State Government and the LPRES Project for the intervention.

They reaffirmed their commitment to ensuring the sustainability of the facilities through coordinated efforts and peer accountability within their respective clusters.

The representatives described the slaughter slab projects as transformative interventions capable of enhancing livestock productivity, improving public health outcomes and strengthening the local agribusiness ecosystem in the state.
