Ekiti L-PRES Opens Competitive Bids for the Construction of Climate-Smart Livestock Projects

The Ekiti State Livestock Productivity and Resilience Support (L-PRES) Project has opened competitive bidding for the construction of climate-smart livestock infrastructure across the state as part of efforts to boost livestock productivity, strengthen value chains and promote climate resilience.

The projects include the construction of a Climate-Smart Sheep and Goat Village in Otun-Ekiti, development of a Smart Poultry Hub and Pig Hub in Erifun, Ado-Ekiti, construction of a Climate-Smart Pig Village in Omuo-Ekiti, and development of climate-smart sheep and goat facilities across Erifun and Adere in Ado-Ekiti.

Declaring the bid opening session open in Ado-Ekiti, the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security, Dr Babatope Ojo, described the exercise as a critical step toward ensuring transparency, accountability and due process in public procurement.

Ojo said the projects would strengthen livestock value chains, create employment opportunities and enhance climate resilience within the sector.

He noted that the interventions aligned with the state government’s broader agricultural transformation agenda aimed at improving food security and stimulating agribusiness development.

The State Project Coordinator for L-PRES, Mr Olayinka Adedipe, said the infrastructure projects were designed to modernise livestock production systems and create an enabling environment for farmers and agribusiness operators to scale their operations efficiently.

Adedipe said the initiative would support hygienic meat production, improve livestock productivity and accelerate private sector participation in the livestock value chain.

Also speaking, the Procurement Officer for L-PRES, Mr Sunday Alabi, disclosed that 48 firms purchased bidding documents for the projects, while 39 compliant submissions were received alongside the required bid securities.

He said the response reflected strong stakeholder interest and confidence in the implementation process.

The bid opening was witnessed by key government officials, including the Director in the Bureau of Public Procurement, Engr. Niyi Adebayo, the Director in the Office of the Head of Service, Mr Lawrence Alesin, and representatives of permanent secretaries, Mrs Bosede Orimolade and Engr. Oluwatoyin Ojo.

Stakeholders at the event expressed confidence in the transparency of the process and the transformative impact of the projects on livestock sector development.

They said the projects were expected to drive rural enterprise growth, improve food security and enhance economic resilience across Ekiti State.
