Rotary, Ekiti Government Partner on Community Medical Outreach

The Rotary Reproductive Maternal and Child Health (RMCH), in collaboration with the Ekiti State Ministry of Health and the Primary Healthcare Development Agency, has organised a series of joint community medical outreaches across the state.

The initiative is aimed at improving access to healthcare services and enhancing the wellbeing of residents, particularly women and children.

Speaking at an event in Ado-Ekiti, the Rotary Action Group for Maternal and Child Health officer, Mrs Omolara Asonibare, said the outreach was driven by the organisation’s vision to prevent avoidable deaths among pregnant women and children.

She added that the programme aligns with its broader goal of promoting healthier families in Nigeria.

Mrs Asonibare noted that the outreach seeks to reach a large number of residents by providing life-saving services and addressing rising maternal health challenges in the state.

Also speaking, an RMCH representative, Miss Adeola Adeleke, said Rotary had been implementing strategies focused on capacity building, community engagement, health system strengthening, advocacy and partnerships to reduce maternal and child mortality in Nigeria.

She expressed satisfaction with the turnout of beneficiaries and encouraged residents to take advantage of such initiatives, which offer free services including family planning, malaria testing and treatment, hepatitis and HIV screening, as well as medical consultations and medication.

According to her, the outreach covers several communities, including Ayegunle in Ijero Local Government Area, Ago Aduloju and Idofin in Ado Local Government Area, as well as Awo Ekiti and Afao Ekiti in Irepodun/Ifelodun Local Government Area.

In separate remarks, the Ekiti State Family Planning Coordinator, Mrs Bukola Adekemi, and the state Sexual and Reproductive Health Focal Person, Mrs Funmilayo Osho, said the government had taken significant steps to improve healthcare delivery.

They highlighted efforts such as the provision of family planning commodities, free malaria testing and treatment, and the promotion of healthy lifestyles.

The officials added that the outreach offered a range of services, including eye tests and glasses, general medical check-ups, consultations, treatment and family planning services.

One of the beneficiaries, Mrs Abigael Ojo, expressed appreciation to the organisers, saying the initiative would help improve the health and wellbeing of residents in the community and across Ekiti State.
