The Ekiti State Government has announced that the March edition of the monthly environmental sanitation exercise will hold on Saturday from 7:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. across all Local Government Areas (LGAs) and Local Council Development Areas (LCDAs) in the state.
The State Commissioner for Environment and Natural Resources, Erelu Tosin Aluko-Ajisafe, made this known in a statement issued on Thursday in Ado-Ekiti.
Aluko-Ajisafe said the theme for the exercise, “Keep Drains Clean and Stay Healthy,” underscores the importance of proper drainage maintenance in preventing flooding and reducing the spread of diseases.
She urged residents to actively participate in the exercise, describing environmental sanitation as a collective responsibility necessary for a safer and healthier society.
The commissioner emphasised that keeping drains and surroundings clean plays a critical role in preventing environmental hazards and safeguarding public health.
She added that there would be restriction of movement during the sanitation period, except for those on essential duties.
According to her, residents are encouraged to use the period to clean their homes and immediate environment.
Aluko-Ajisafe said market women were expected to clean their stalls on Thursday, while public servants should tidy their offices on Friday as part of preparatory activities.
She noted that Environmental Health Officers, alongside officials from LGAs, LCDAs, non-governmental organisations and security agencies, would monitor the exercise to ensure compliance.
The commissioner reiterated the government’s commitment to environmental sustainability, stressing that a cleaner Ekiti could only be achieved through collective effort and consistent hygienic practices.
