EKITI IRS BOSS CONGRATULATES GOVERNOR OYEBANJI

...Solicits continued support of the people for the new administration

The Acting Chairman of the Ekiti State Internal Revenue Service (EKIRS), Mr. Fatai Saka Badmus has felicitated with Mr. Biodun Abayomi Oyebanji on his swearing-in as Governor of Ekiti State, describing his victory at the polls as triumph for the people in the State and an opportunity to continue the developmental strides of his predecessor.

In a congratulatory message made available to newsmen in Ado Ekiti, the EKIRS boss expressed confidence in the ability of Mr. Oyebanji to surpass the achievements of past administrations, noting that the new Governor not only learnt from the best but had also been a vital part of successive progressive administrations in the State.

Stressing that Mr. Oyebanji’s zeal for growth and development of Ekiti is monumental; Mr. Badmus also noted that he was an integral part of the struggle for the creation of the State in 1996 as Secretary to the State Creation Committee when he was just in his twenties.

He however stressed the need for the continued support of all stakeholders, stressing that no Government can perform optimally without the full support of the people.

Badmus emphasized that “an effective government invests in its people, advances opportunities for shared prosperity, and raises the revenues needed to support the public structures that support inclusive economic growth” adding that ”the people must however be prepared to live up to their civic responsibilities by actively participating in the public life in an informed, committed, and constructive manner, with a focus on the common good”.

He pledged the commitment of the State IRS to the task of improving and making the State Internally Generated Revenue (IGR) fiscally sustainable to facilitate finance and funding for governance, public and social services as well as economic development.

Describing taxes as the primary source of revenue for most governments, Badmus stated that money collected as taxes are spent to provide medical services, improve and maintain public infrastructure, including the roads we travel on, and fund public services, such as schools, emergency services, and welfare programs.

He highlighted other benefits of paying taxes to include getting good education for your children, maintaining safe and reliable roads, ability to access vital emergency protection and assistance as well as fulfilling civic responsibilities.
